City Catering Southampton works in partnership with nurseries, primary, SEN and secondary schools to feed pupils across the city with nutritious school meals that fuel their learning.
We are fully committed to cooking and serving healthy school meals and to promoting healthy eating choices in schools. As a charity, we support holiday hunger initiatives that help pupils and their families when they need it most.
Our school menus comply with the Government’s School Food Plan. But we don’t stop there: we’re continuously improving the food that we serve, through our ongoing commitment to the Soil Association’s Food for Life accreditation. Everything we do is about ensuring Southampton’s school children have the best possible start in life with nutritious school meals every day of the academic year.
Our Board of Trustees includes Head Teachers from our Primary, Secondary and SEN member schools; school interests are well represented in everything we do. Our Trustees bring a wide range of leadership experience from local, national, and global organisations. They guide our activities, provide insights into issues that schools face, and support the charity’s plans for growth and innovation.
Formerly part of Southampton City Council, we are a non-profit charitable organisation that has been supplying school meals to Southampton schools since 1997. We invest in the development of food education and encourage school children to make healthy food choices that will contribute to their well-being into adulthood.
Since our transformation from a business unit within Southampton City Council to our new charitable organisation, we have reduced our SLA chargers to schools by 63% and have spent over £600,000 replacing equipment and school kitchen serving over the past three years.
We provide all recruitment, training and development of kitchen staff. We have also developed a digital kitchen management system to streamline kitchen manage to limit food waste and manage food standards.
